Carol McCabe Booker will be at the Loffler center to discuss her husband’s famous book, which tells the history of Simeon Booker's 65-year journalism career. This book explains how blacks went from being completely ignored in the mainstream press to being the focus of heavy coverage of the civil rights movement, and the role of Booker's civil rights reporting in Jet magazine. “Starting with his fascinating, inside account of the Emmett Till drama, Simeon Booker's Shocking The Conscience not only spans the civil rights movement, it serves as a testament to his role as a pioneer breaking color barriers in his own profession.” (Curtis Wilkie, author of The Fall of the House of Zeus). Simeon Booker passed away 2 years ago at the age of 99. His wife of 44 years, Carol McCabe Booker has also been and continues to be an active force in civil rights. Sign up for this presentation by calling 301-475-4200, ext. 71658, or stop by the reception desk.
