Now that spring is finally here it’s fun to brighten up our homes. Let’s start with the heart of the house- the dining table! What better way to add cheer and beauty than to make a table runner—especially if everything you need is already prepared for you so that all you have to do is show up! This class is being offered by Kim Pilkerton of Joyfully Sewn. Though geared toward beginners, all skill levels are welcome. Payment is due to instructor on day of class. Call 301-475-4200, ext. 71658, to sign up or stop by the reception desk.

GMHS Lighthouse Productions Presents Footloose the Musical

Great Mills and Lighthouse Productions presents Footloose the Musical!

Directed by Meagan Pugh Musical Direction by Sara Nelson
Music by Tom Snow : Lyrics by Dean Pitchford : Stage Adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie : Based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford : Additional Music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman

One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

   "Brighton Beach Memoirs" performance
Location: Three Notch Theatre, 21744 South Coral Drive, Lexington Park, MD 2063    View Map
Date: 4/4/2019
Start Time: 8:00 PM
End Time: 10:30 PM (02:30 Duration)

“Brighton Beach Memoirs” is Neil Simon’s autobiographical portrait of the writer as a young teen in 1937 living with his family in a crowded, lower middle-class Brooklyn walk-up. Eugene Jerome, standing in for the author, is the narrator and central character. Dreaming of baseball and girls, Eugene must cope with the mundane existence of his family life: his formidable mother, overworked father, and worldly older brother Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche, her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters and you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Simon-style. This bittersweet memoir evocatively captures the life of a struggling Jewish household where, as his father states, “if you didn’t have a problem, you wouldn’t be living here.” All tickets are $13 general admission. All tickets may be purchased online at www.newtowneplayers.org, or by calling 301-737-5447.
