Every year in Maryland thousands of deerskins are thrown away. With a little knowledge and a lot of elbow grease these deerskins can be transformed into supple buckskins. During this workshop you will learn how Native Americans made buckskin and get a hands-on chance to use both native and modern tools. Each participant will create their own soft and supple buckskin to take home. This workshop is suitable for participants 15 and older.

The duration of this workshop is September 27th, October 3rd, and 4th (10am—4pm)

[Fee $100 (Friends of JPPM $75)]

Visit one of the nation's best-preserved one-room African American schoolhouses on select days each month. Check out the renovated schoolhouse and learn about its rich history and importance in St. Mary's County. Staff will be available at the school during this time to answer any questions and provide information.

The schoolhouse has been closed for several years, but with the completion of the renovations of the building in the spring of 2018, the public is now able to access this significant historic site on the 1st Saturday of each month and during periodic special event weekends. The St. Mary's County Museum Division also offers special programs for school, bus and other tour groups who would like to visit the site. Visitors who would like to see the schoolhouse times outside open house hours can contact Piney Point Lighthouse Museum and Historic Park to arrange a visit.

All guests must always wear masks while in the building, and social distancing guidelines are encouraged outside family units. Staff and volunteers will be wearing masks, and frequently cleaning all public contact areas.

Thrills by Day
We’re pumpkin spicing things up in the park with your little masked witches and goblins in mind! Chills by Night
Daredevils during HALLOWFEST can put their fears to the test by riding coasters in total darkness, while scaring up an appetite for tasty hallow-treats along the way. Creepy fog, eerie lighting, and sinister music will create the perfect backdrop for nighttime scares and chills. Thrill-seekers can also enjoy WONDER WOMAN Lasso of Truth and Firebird in total darkness.

At HALLOWFEST, the fright factor will be reimagined with added safety precautions to reduce the spreading of both human and zombie germs. All guests will be required to make a reservation to properly maintain social distancing.

- All team members (including scareactors) and guests 3 years and up will be required to wear masks covering the nose and mouth while in the parks.
- No indoor mazes, haunted houses, or indoor shows will be operated.
- A limited number of nighttime scareactors will remain at least six feet away from guests and each other.
- Guests viewing outdoor entertainment will be separated by at least six feet.
