Event Narrative

St. Francis Xavier Parish in Compton is sponsoring a “Walk in the Park” 5k fun run/walk on Saturday, May 20, 2017, starting at 9 am (registration at 8 am). Join our parish community for a fun morning walk or run in Newtowne Neck State Park to support the preservation of Newtowne Manor House. An important part of early Maryland history, Newtowne Manor House is part of the St. Francis Xavier Church/Newtowne Manor House Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places and one of the historic buildings named as an “Endangered Maryland” site. Open to all ages and abilities, participants will follow the scenic paved road and gravel trail from St. Francis Xavier Church to the Potomac River waterfront in the park and then back to the church. Stroller and pet friendly, the full course is a 5k, with shorter courses marked along the way. Take time to browse the picturesque parish grounds, and enjoy a tour of St. Francis Xavier Church, c. 1766, the oldest Catholic Church in continuous use in English America. NAWCAD S&Es partner with The Patuxent Partnership (TPP) and St. Mary's College of Maryland to produce "STEM-ING" (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics—Inspiring the Next Generation). STEM-ING is a one-day event designed for middle school girls in the tri-county region to gain exposure to STEM fields and associated careers. Throughout the day, up to 150 young ladies will hear from positive role models in the STEM industry and academia and will have an opportunity to select from over 10 fun, interactive, and challenging STEM related workshops. STEM-ING has successfully inspired over 450 young women to the exciting world of STEM. This will be our 6th year of involvement. The STEM-ING 2018 event will be held on Saturday, 28 April 2018 on the St. Mary's College of Maryland campus in St. Mary's, MD.

Zumba Gold-Toning is the Zumba party that you love at your own pace with a low intensity total body workout using light weights to shake up those muscles. The class will focus on muscle conditioning, balance, range of motion and coordination -all in a party atmosphere. While this is a lower intensity workout, it will leave you high in energy. No fitness or dance experience necessary.
