The planning for the 6th Annual Daring the Blaze 5k is underway. The event will take place Saturday, June 25, 2022 this year in the heart of Dares Beach right in Prince Frederick, Md.

The virtual race option will allow participants to participate any time between Saturday, June 25, 2022 and Saturday, July 2, 2022.

On the day of check-in, registration will open at 7 a.m. on the Dares Beach Green. The race begins at 8 a.m.

The Calvert County Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Division, will host free paper shredding events for county residents and businesses to help prevent identity theft by destroying confidential or sensitive documents.

The following shred events will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine:

• Saturday, June 25 at Appeal Landfill located at 401 Sweetwater Road in Lusby

Proof of residency or business location is required. All paper must be removed from plastic bags and cardboard boxes prior to shredding. Paper clips and staples are acceptable. Binders and binder clips are not acceptable.

Businesses are allowed up to 5 banker boxes of paper per business (or the equivalent volume of 5 banker boxes in alternate containers). There is no limit for residents. Certificates of destruction will be provided if requested.

The Forest Fairies of Piscataway Park are once again opening up their homes and inviting visitors into their world to learn about the forest they call home. This year they will take you on an enchanted adventure under the soil!

Full admission for fairies is $15 and will include wand making, wish bottles, soil activities, face painting, fairy dance class, special "Fairyologist" activity guides, and a popsicle. Partial admission for fairy-guardians is $5.

The Accokeek Foundation follows masking guidance from the National Park Service and local health agencies. Masks will be required indoors and for outdoor non-socially distanced activities if local COVID-19 conditions are at a HIGH level at the time of the program.
