Chesapeake Choral Arts presents "A Glorious Concert!"
Location: St. Joseph Catholic Parish Center. 4590 St Joseph Way, Pomfret, MD    View Map

The Chesapeake Choral Arts Society presents a Glorious Concert. The concert will feature different settings of the Gloria. Arnold Freed's Gloria is a very powerful modern work performed with brass ensemble and timpani. The Haydn Gloria in Excelsis Deo is a very traditional setting of the work. Dufay's work was written in the 1400's, and the medieval tone is haunting and more somber than the other two settings.
A highlight will be the premiere performance of The “Gloria” Variations by W.G. Pete Stokes which will feature our Director Emeritus, Michael Santana, as a soloist.
Each work in the concert exemplifies "Glory to God in the Highest." And how do you end a concert of "Glorias"? With Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, of course! Soloists Amy Statz Dolan and Hannah Baslee will be returning for this eternal work.
Amy Statz Dolan (Soprano) is a graduate of Western Michigan University and the University of South Carolina and furthered her opera training at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Amy was a US Air Force “Singing Sergeant” for 12 years.
Mezzo-soprano Hannah Baslee is a graduate of Concordia University Texas (CTX), where she received a B.A. in vocal performance and eared her M.M. in Vocal Performance at the University of Texas, El Paso.
What a "Glorious" way to move into the Easter Season!
There will be two performances of the Glorious concert on April 13th and April 14th. Both performances will be at St. Joseph Catholic Parish Center located at 4590 St. Joseph’s Rd., Pomfret, MD.
Tickets can be purchased from our website (chesapeakechoral.com) or can be purchased at the door. Ticket prices are $15 for adults; $12 for students, seniors, and military.

“Brighton Beach Memoirs” is Neil Simon’s autobiographical portrait of the writer as a young teen in 1937 living with his family in a crowded, lower middle-class Brooklyn walk-up. Eugene Jerome, standing in for the author, is the narrator and central character. Dreaming of baseball and girls, Eugene must cope with the mundane existence of his family life: his formidable mother, overworked father, and worldly older brother Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche, her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters and you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Simon-style. This bittersweet memoir evocatively captures the life of a struggling Jewish household where, as his father states, “if you didn’t have a problem, you wouldn’t be living here.” Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors, students and military; and $10 for children age 12 and under. All tickets may be purchased online at www.newtowneplayers.org, or by calling 301-737-5447.

Certain Souls is a collection of 8 monologues written by award winning playwright Ken Jaworowski and directed by Jeff Larsen. These monologues take us down an all too familiar path we all seem to face in life; a crossroads, a fork in the road, a time where we must make a decision, but will it be the right decision?
