Patuxent River Appreciation Day (PRAD), an annual celebration of the Patuxent River, will take place at the Calvert Marine Museum on Saturday, October 12, from 10 AM to 7 PM.

This celebration creates awareness, recognition, and promotion of the economic, social, recreational, cultural, and historical impact of the tributaries of the Patuxent River and the basin through which it flows.

-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-

The festival brings together and reflects the continuing commitment of the community, Calvert County Board of County Commissioners, Calvert Marine Museum, and other organizations that share a desire to preserve the Patuxent River and to celebrate its positive influence on the area's quality of life in the past, present, and future.

By bringing these people together in a public forum, PRAD hopes to continue the interest in support of the environmental programs and tourism activities surrounding the Patuxent River and its tributaries.

-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-

NO ADMISSION FEES, NO PARKING FEES, FREE BOAT RIDES, CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES, AND LIVE MUSIC!

The format has evolved to reflect the changing times. PRAD is now a one-day event, extending into the evening hours, and will occur on the second Saturday in October each year. Join us for lots of music, food, local arts and crafts, a kid friendly zone, boat rides, toy boat building, pony rides, displays and activities celebrating the river—all the fun goings-on you have come to expect! There will also be new happenings and an evening 'river party' to top off the event in style from 5—7 PM, featuring live music by Robbie Boothe at 6 PM.

-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners, Calvert Marine Museum, Arick L Lore Post American Legion, and Calvert County Waterman’s Association sponsor this event.

New Direction Community Theater presents "The Murder Room." Mavis Templeton Hollister returns to Brynwood Cottage in northern England only to find her husband, Edgar, waiting to greet her, which is slightly distressing, considering she was 99 percent sure she had killed him earlier. She quickly “finishes the job” but Edgar’s disappearance kick-starts a remarkable zany chain of events. Plodding police inspectors, mysterious hidden compartments, dull-witted relations and noisy servants all make “The Murder Room” an utterly charming place to be.

The Newtowne Players present Patrick Hamilton’s classic thriller “AAngel Street (Gaslight).” Tickets, available at www.newtowneplayers.org, are $15 for adults; $13 for military, seniors, NTP members and students; and $10 for children under 12. All tickets for Thursday performances are $10. Reservations may be made at 301-737-5447.
A Broadway hit first produced on the West End under the title “Gaslight” and filmed twice, “Angel Street” tells the story of the Manninghams, who live on Angel Street in 19th century London. All appears to be the essence of Victorian tranquility; however, Mr. Manningham is slowly driving his devoted wife, Bella, to the brink of insanity with an insinuating kindness that masks more sinister motives. As the action unfolds, the author builds and sustains some of the most brilliant, suspenseful sequences in modern theatre.
