An American Legion Flag History Presentation will be conducted on 11 Oct 21, 9:30—10:30am. The event will be held at American Legion Post 221; 21690 Colton’s Point Rd.; Avenue, MD 20609. The target audience is home-schoolers; however, anyone is welcome to attend. The program will primarily allow the students to enhance their Americanism and learn about the principles of justice, freedom, and democracy. A series of 12 historical flags will be introduced to the students. The students are instructed on the proper display of the flag and the rules of flag etiquette. Included is a demonstration of the proper way to fold the flag while the National Flag Foundation’s step-by-step overview of the symbolism associated with the folds of the flag is read. Legionnaires open the floor to answer various questions from the students ranging from flag protocols to civic responsibilities. All students will be presented with a tabletop flag and wooden base, “Our Country’s Flag” handbook, and a ruler containing the Pledge of Allegiance and a pictorial chronology of the United States Presidents. The program is presented on a complimentary basis from American Legion Post 221, with support from Post 255, Post 54; the 40 & 8 organization, and Frank’s Woods. The basic program is approximately 45 minutes in length, expanded to allow for open discussion between the students and veterans, as time permits. For further information contact Mike Barbour at (301) 769-4569 or mcgabell@md.metrocast.net.
