Viola Sophia Reis, age 93, died May 17, 2009 at Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick where she has resided for the past five and one half years. She was born February 11, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY to Arthur August and Annette Hutter Pieplow.
She moved with her family to Bogota, NJ where she was raised and later met and married Theodore J. "Ted" Reis. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Continental Can Co., and after her marriage she and Ted owned and operated a large service station business where she was the bookkeeper and office manager. She was also a devoted homemaker, wife and mother. In 1966 she and her husband sold the service station business and move to Long Island, NY. She loved painting, and was a member of an art club while living on Long Island. She also enjoyed shopping, baking, and spending time with her family and her pet dog. Her husband Ted died October 11, 1986, and Mrs. Reis moved in 2000 to her new home in Dunkirk, MD to be near her daughter, Carol Grimstead. Prior to moving to the Calvert Nursing Center, Viola was again active in an art club at the Calvert Pines Center in Prince Frederick. Mrs. Reis is survived by her daughter Carol A. Grimstead and her husband Manley of Dunkirk, granddaughters Caryn Paige Grimstead of Arlington, VA and Deanna Lynne Simpkin of Hollywood, MD. Friends will be received at Rausch Funeral Home, P.A., 8325 Mt. Harmony Lane, Owings, MD on Tuesday May 26 from 7-7:30 PM. A Memorial Service will follow at 7:30 officiated by Reverend Robert Wagner of Grace Brethren Church of Calvert County. Interment will be private. Arrangements provided by Rausch Funeral Home. |
