Swann, Thomas Herbert "Herbie," Age 52 of La Plata, Maryland.

On Sunday, February 22, 2009 at his home in La Plata, Maryland and surrounded by loving and dedicated family, Thomas Herbert Swann, more affectionately called "Herbie," left this earthly life for life eternal.

Herbie was born on January 1, 1957 in Washington, D.C. to May Emma (Butler) Swann and the late Oscar Wilbert Swann and was baptized as a Catholic. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata, Maryland.

Herbie grew up in Charles County, Maryland, attended the Public Schools and graduated in 1974 from La Plata High School in La Plata, Maryland. After graduating, he began his working career at the Calvert Cliff Power Plant, then moved on to the Besche Oil Company. His career ended in retirement due to illness at the Coca Cola Bottling Company where he was employed as a Special Events Coordinator.

Herbie enjoyed riding his bicycle, especially around the water, listening to Oldies but Goodies, Rhythm and Blues (R & B) and socializing with his brother, cousins and friends. He also liked to shoot pool and repair lawn mowers. He looked forward to the warm weather and spending time with family at the family reunions and cookouts. Herbie had a people personality, he was a very caring and likeable person. He could meet new people and make friends with no trouble at all. He was the "Uncle" to keep his nieces and nephews in line when they were small and the "Uncle" to work on their vehicles when they grew up. He was always there when you needed him. Herbie loved his immediate family and was most proud of all of them.

Left to cherish loving and fond memories are his devoted mother, May Emma Swann, two brothers, Charles Randolph (Randy) Swann and Francis Gary (Tidy) Swann, three sisters, Mae Caroline (Mae Carolyn) Wade, Elizabeth (Debbie) Proctor and Michelle (Samantha) Swann, a brother-in-law, Jeffery P. Proctor, four nephews, Wendell Wade, Juston Wade, Gary Swann, Jr. and Zachary Swann, three nieces, Tiffany Smoot, La Joy Smallwood and Shayla Proctor, one great nephew, Cameron Smoot and one great niece, Alexis Smoot, two special friends, Jacqueline (Jackie) Swann and Lauren Warner and her daughter Janelle and a host of family and friends.

His Viewing will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, Maryland, from 9:30 am until 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am. His Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
