Edward (Ed) G Yatty, 80, of La Plata MD, passed on January 17th, 2023, at Washington Hospital Center, He was born on April 14th, 1942, in Monroeville PA to the late Edward S. and Marilyn Yatty. He is also predeceased by his son Edward (Eddie) Robert Yatty.
Ed is a member of Grace Lutheran Church, La Plata MD, FOP, Blue Knights Maryland IV, and American Legion La Plata MD.
He grew up in North Versailles PA and attended Millersville University PA and played college football. Ed began his career in 1963 with the Metropolitan Police Dept, Washington DC. Ed received many accommodations and retired 1983. During those years Ed worked alongside community to form the St Charles Bears Youth Football Organization, Waldorf MD, where he coached football for several years.
After retiring from MPDC, Ed worked for WSSC Laurel MD as a Zone Supervisor and retired in 2000. He began traveling with his wife, Gail, and friends, volunteering Meals On Wheels, Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, and American Legion.
Ed was an outdoorsman loving nature, birds, his koi pond, all dogs and especially his latest two cats. He made friends wherever he went and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Ed is survived by his wife, Gail M Yatty, son Gary P Yatty (Robin), stepdaughters Julie Katayama (Victor) and Jenifer Ellin (Blair), grandchildren Keith DeLawder, Alex Katayama, Jett Katayama, Sarah Yatty, Rachael Charles (Evan) and great granddaughter Haven Charles.
The family will receive friends at Grace Lutheran Church, La Plata MD, on January 28th from 9-11. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 am followed by a repass at the church's Family Life Center. The immediate family will hold a private interment service at Trinity Memorial Gardens Waldorf MD at a later date.
