Thomas Francis Sweeney, 72, of Owings passed away June 15, 2022. He was born October 4, 1949, in Washington, DC to Edward Manning and Annabelle Kip (Henry) Sweeney. Thomas was raised in Takoma Park and graduated from High Point High School. He Joined the United States Navy in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1971 after serving aboard the USS Independence, USS L.Y. Spear, and Commander in Chief Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, VA. He married Eileen Marie Isabella on November 13, 1971, and they lived in Riverdale before moving to Owings in 1978. Thomas was employed as a printer for Kiplinger's Editors Press, Moore & Moore, and Creative Printing, before going to work at the Washington Post as a photo engraver. He retired from the Post in January 2013. Thomas was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. In his spare time, he was a HAM radio operator and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen M. Sweeney of Owings and daughter Nicolette Noreen Savacool of Hanford, CA. Also surviving are grandchildren Angelina Franchino, Anthony Franchino, Jr., Thomas Snell and Zachary Snell, great-grandchildren Harmony Franchino and Korra Snell, sisters Maryann Shenk, Kathleen Thomasson, and Maureen Sweeney, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and brothers E. Michael Sweeney and Shawn P. Sweeney.
