Russell Paul "Buck" Herndon, 88, of Hughesville, Maryland, passed away on November 1, 2019 at Sage Point Senior Living in La Plata. Born on June 13, 1931 in Kanawha Head, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Minnie Riley Herndon and Arnett Herndon. Buck served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War before being Honorably Discharged. He then worked for the Washington Post as a distributor with over 30 years of service. Buck was an avid outdoorsman and a member of the Southern Maryland Hunting Club. He was also a baseball fan and a member of the American Legion Post 238 in Hughesville.
In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his eight siblings. He is survived by his wife Margie Louise; daughters Debbie Edelen and her husband Richard, and Connie Herndon; grandsons Rusty (Tracy) and R. J. Edelen; great grandchildren Michael Edelen, Matthew Edelen, Haleigh Edelen, Noah Edelen, Kinsley Hecker, Parker Edelen and Raelynn Edelen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 11AM until time of service at 1PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. A repass will be held following the services at the American Legion Post 238, 6265 Brandywine Road, Hughesville, Maryland 20637. A private interment will be held at a later date at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 238, 6265 Brandywine Road, Hughesville, Maryland 20637.
