CCSO Investigating Shooting-Homicide on Mona Farm Place

LA PLATA, Md. (Sept. 25, 2016)—On Sunday, Sept. 25, at 1:53 a.m., officers responded to the 10400 block of Popes Creek Road in Newburg for the report of a shooting. The caller indicated he was in a car and he and his friend had been shot at a different location. Officers arrived and rendered first aid and CPR to the critically wounded passenger—an 18-year-old male from Deale—but he was pronounced deceased. The driver, 18, was flown to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest; his injury does not appear to be life-threatening.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victims learned of a party on Mona Farm Place and showed up uninvited. When they pulled up to the entrance of the driveway, they were asked to leave, which they did. They drove about a half mile away, heading to the main highway, when they passed other vehicles that were stopped on the narrow road. At some point, there was an argument with occupants of another car. The suspects in the other vehicle produced a gun and fired shots, striking the victims. The suspects fled and the victims drove away to Popes Creek Road.

Detectives are working on leads.

The identity of the victim will be released when all next of kin have been notified.
