Fatal Accident in Valley Lee; Serious Collision in Loveville

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision Piney Point and Drayden Road in Valley Lee

On Monday, April 4, at approximately 1:37 a.m., patrol units from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Piney Point Road and Drayden Road in Valley Lee for the report of a serious motor vehicle collision. Members of the Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed, Mark Kyle Jones, age 25, of Leonardtown, was traveling northbound on Piney Point Road in a 1998 Honda Accord, when for unknown reasons, his vehicle left the roadway and overturned into a utility pole. Jones was located deceased in the vehicle.

Speed appears to be a factor in the collision, and the case remains under investigation.

Motor Vehicle Collision on Point Lookout Road and Loveville Road

On Monday, April 4, at approximately 7:52 a.m., patrol units from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Point Lookout Road and Loveville Road in Leonardtown, for the report of a serious motor vehicle collision.

Members of the Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

The investigation revealed a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, being operated by Brett Steven Lagana, age 17, of Hughesville, crossed the centerline and struck a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado being operated by Margaret Redman, age 56, of Brandywine.

Lagana and Redman were transported via "Trooper 7" to Prince George's Hospital Trauma Center.

Speed and failure to drive right of center appear to be contributing factors, and the case remains under investigation.
