High Winds Down Trees, Power Lines


CALLAWAY, Md. (April 3, 2016)—High winds, which began Saturday night and persisted into Sunday morning, caused trees to topple and power lines to come down throughout the region.

Leesburg Court at Hunting Creek Road in Huntingtown, Calvert Co., closed around 11:30 p.m. Saturday due to a low power line.

Medleys Neck Rd at Belvidere Farm Road in Leonardtown was closed for approximately 2 hours beginning around 6:30 a.m. due to a tree and wires in the road.

Manor Road at Hill Farm Lane in Chaptico was closed beginning around 6:30 a.m. due to a tree and wires in the road.

As of 4:30 p.m. Sunday, SMECO is reporting 11 minor outages affecting 106 customers in the following areas:

• St. Mary's City; 43 customers affected

• Piney Point; 1 customer

• Leonardtown; 7 customers

• Avenue; 8 customers; caused by trees

• Bushwood; 1 customer

• Broomes Island; 1 customer

• White Plains; 1 customer

• St. Charles; 6 customers

• Piscataway Park area; 6 customers
