NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Plant

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (May 26, 2015)—Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Christopher Roettgen as the new Resident Inspector at the Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant in Lusby, Md. The plant is operated by Exelon.

“Chris Roettgen’s experience, technical expertise and training will assist the NRC in carrying out its mission to protect people and the environment by ensuring the safe operation of the Calvert Cliffs units,” said NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman.

Roettgen joined the Region I office in February 2014 as a project engineer in the Division of Reactor Projects. Prior to joining the agency, he served for ten years as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. Roettgen earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master’s in applied physics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC Resident Inspectors.

Roettgen joins Senior Resident Inspector Rodney Clagg at Calvert Cliffs. They serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
