Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Leonardtown

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Nov. 17, 2014)—The St. Mary's Co. Sheriff's Office is reporting the death of a pedestrian in Leonardtown. Brian Todd Cooper, age 51, of Mechanicsville, was struck by a car at Point Lookout Road and Maypole Road on Saturday around 5:24 pm.

Police investigators determined that Cooper was illegally in the roadway while crossing the northbound lanes of Point Lookout Road. Cooper entered the path of a 2014 Ford Taurus, operated by Richard L. Buckler, 69, of Leonardtown, and was struck by the vehicle.

Police say that alcohol appears to have been a factor on the part of the pedestrian.
