MSP Reports for St. Mary's Co.


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 18, 2014)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

DRUG ARREST: On Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 8:47 pm, TFC E. Mersman initiated a traffic stop on a silver truck on Route 5 and Route 246 for a minor traffic infraction. A probable cause search of the vehicle and occupant was conducted, resulting in the recovery of CDS. The driver, Melvin Vincent Fenwick, Jr., 20, of St. Inigoes, was arrested and charged with CDS: Possession- Marijuana and CDS: Possess Paraphernalia. He was transported to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack for processing and later released.

THEFT: On Friday, April 4, 2014 at 7:46 pm, TFC W. Couter responded to the Wal-Mart located in California for a reported theft. A juvenile, 13, was arrested for Theft Under $100 and then released to a parent.

DRUG ARREST: On Monday, April 7, 2014 at 1:50 am, TFC R. Jackson initiated a traffic stop on a black SUV on Route 235 and Route 237 for a minor traffic infraction. A K9 Scan was conducted and the K9 alerted on the vehicle. A probable cause search was then conducted, resulting in the recovery of CDS. The driver, Samuel John Burgess, 35, of Upper Marlboro, was arrested and charged with CDS: Possession- Marijuana and CDS: Possess Paraphernalia. He was transported to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack for processing and later released.

FRAUD: The Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack has received numerous reports of income tax fraud. Victims report that they attempt to file their 2013 income taxes only to discover they had been fraudulently filed by an unknown suspect(s). The suspect(s) used the victims' legitimate personal information, such as name, Social Security Number, and other identifying information to fraudulently file a tax return and claim a refund. Investigation continues.

John William Alvarado, 36, of Lexington Park, served on 4/11/14 at 10:49 am for Driving While Suspended and Fail to Remain at Accident with Injuries.

James Anthony Lawrence, 35, of Mechanicsville, served on 4/17/2014 at 11:30 am for Fail to Appear in court.

John Wendell Young, 39, of Great Mills, served on 4/17/2014 at 1:27 pm for Fail to Follow Conditions of Probation.
