Gansler: Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor submitted false claims
BALTIMORE (December 27, 2013)—Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler announced today that Leon Wilson, 54, of Waldorf, has been indicted by the Grand Jury for Prince George’s County and is charged with three counts each of Felony Medicaid Fraud and Felony Theft over $1,000.
It is alleged that from December 2011 through October 2012, Wilson, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who provided individual therapy services to participants in the Medicaid program, submitted claims for payment to the Medicaid program for services that were not rendered. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.
Medicaid is a healthcare program for families and children and certain other individuals who qualify for participation based on income levels, disability and other circumstances. Felony Medicaid Fraud is punishable by up to five years incarceration and up to a $100,000 fine. Felony Theft (over $1,000 and less than $10,000) is punishable by up to 10 years incarceration and up to a $10,000 fine.
A criminal indictment is merely an accusation of wrongdoing and all persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until the State proves the individual guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The case is being prosecuted by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Attorney General's Office.
