Recreation and Parks Board Meeting Canceled
The St. Mary's County Recreation and Parks Board meeting, originally scheduled to occur Thursday, January 2, 2014, has been canceled.
Recreation and Parks Board meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, unless otherwise noted. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the board will be Thursday, February 6, 2014, at 5:30 p.m., in the commissioners meeting room inside the Chesapeake Building, on the Governmental Center Campus, in Leonardtown.

Commission on Aging Meeting Cancellation Notice
The St. Mary's County Commission on Aging's meeting, scheduled for Monday, December 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at the Garvey Senior Activity Center, has been canceled due to the holidays.

Come to our main office to purchase gift certificates for your friends and loved ones. The certificates have a value of $25, must be purchased in-person and can be redeemed online. They make great gifts for those who enjoy participating in sports, leisure, fitness, summer camps and so much more!
The gift certificates don't have an expiration date and may be used for any registered recreation program. They can't be used towards monthly installment billings (childcare, team gymnastics) or any facility which requires a daily entrance fee (daily pool use, skate park, sprayground, special events or family skate night).
Recreation and Parks is located on the Governmental Center campus in Leonardtown, inside the Patuxent Building. The address is 23150 Leonard Hall Drive.
Installation of New Floor to Close Leonard Hall Recreation Center
Due to the installation of new flooring the Leonard Hall Recreation Center in Leonardtown will be closed, from Monday, December 9 until Friday, December 20.
The new flooring will be installed in the arena and adjacent wellness room. All programs will be canceled and the arena and wellness room will be closed during this time.
Family Skate Night, scheduled for Saturday, December 14, is also canceled. Family Skate Night will resume on Saturday, December 21.
St. Mary's County Government Holiday Season Schedule
All St. Mary's County Government offices will be closed Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25, 2013 for the Christmas holiday as well as Tuesday, December 31, 2013 and Wednesday, January 1, 2014 for the New Year's holiday.
The St. Andrews Landfill and six Convenience Centers will be closed on December 25 and January 1, 2014. The St. Mary's Transit System (STS) bus service will end at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24 and will not operate December 25 for Christmas or January 1, 2014 for New Year's. STS will be open for normal business hours prior to and after the observed holidays.
The six convenience centers will have extended hours of operation the week of December 23 through December 27, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. to accommodate the increased usage of the facilities by County residents during the holiday season. The St. Andrews Landfill will operate at its regular hours, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., during the holiday season.
Citizens may drop off undecorated Christmas trees for collection at the landfill and convenience centers free of charge. Trees should be placed in designated areas beginning December 24, 2013 through January 31, 2014. Last year, the County collected nearly 15 tons of Christmas trees. Over 6,000 tons of mulch is produced annually at the St. Andrews Landfill and made available to St. Mary's County citizens while supplies last.
The three branches of the St. Mary's County Library will be closed December 24, 25 and January 1, 2014. The libraries will close at 5 p.m. on December 31.
All three Department of Aging Senior Activity Centers will be closed December 24, 25, 31 and January 1, 2014 and there will be no Meals on Wheels deliveries.
The Lexington Park Business and Community Association Meeting
The Lexington Park Business and Community Association will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 11th starting at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Compass Systems as there is a holiday event at the fire station. Compass Systems is locate in the Pax River Office Park directly across from the Southern Maryland Golf Center on Great Mills Road.
Allen Settle, Project Manager for the Patuxent Park project to reconstruct all roads, sidewalks, curb and gutters, storm water inlets and sewer and water lines, will provide an update on the neighborhood revitalization project as well as a mention or two on the status of the FDR Boulevard construction project. We'll also receive even more good news about the Bikes for COPS Program.
