LA PLATA, Md.—Two affiliated manufacturing firms are moving to Charles County, resulting in nearly 50 new county jobs, according to the county commissioners. MPM Communications, LCC, commonly known as ABR Services, is a 40-employee company that is relocating from Woodbridge, Va. starting in December 2013. Jim Buckley Offsetting & Services, Inc., known as JBO Printing, relocated nine jobs from Forestville, Md. to Waldorf in June 2013.
ABR Services is seeking to hire individuals experienced in the mail and print industry, specifically in the following skill areas: business analysts, quality control, machine operators, warehouse, data, mail floor, customer service, and sales.
ABR Services and JBO Printing will be located in the same building in St. Charles Industrial Park at 3480 Catterton Place, Waldorf (formerly 100 Post Office Road). The firms' ownership considered locations in Prince George's County in Maryland, as well as Prince William County in Virginia, before deciding on the Waldorf location.
"I'm always pleased to have new businesses choosing to move to Charles County. This means jobs and a more solid commercial base. I commend the staff in Economic Development for their hard work and dedication to making this happen," said Commissioner Bobby Rucci (District 4) in a statement.
The Economic Development department worked with the company owner and its agents since 2012 to solidify and facilitate the location decision, including:
-- Comparing cost of taxes relative to other jurisdictions under consideration.
-- Identifying business financing.
-- Assisting with job applicant identification.
-- Providing access to the Job Creation Tax Credit, a state incentive available to relocating and expanding businesses that create a significant number of well-paying jobs in a state-targeted industry.
