Local Government Schedule Changes for Thanksgiving


CALLAWAY, Md.—Local governmental entities have announced the following schedule changes and closings for the coming Thanksgiving holiday, which will be officially celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 28.

Calvert County Government

All Calvert County government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29, in observance of Thanksgiving.

The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed Nov. 28 and 29. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered on Nov. 28 but will resume service on Nov. 29.

All Calvert Library locations will be open until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, and will be closed on Nov. 28 and 29. Libraries will resume normal hours Saturday, Nov. 30.

There will be no public transportation services Nov. 28 and 29. Regular Saturday service will resume Nov. 30.

All Solid Waste facilities will be closed on Nov. 28 and will resume normal hours Friday, Nov. 29.

County parks, the Calvert Marine Museum and the Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center will be closed Nov. 28 and resume normal hours Nov. 29.

All community centers will be closed Nov. 28. The Northeast Community Center will be open regular hours on Nov. 29. Mount Hope and Southern community centers and North Beach Recreational Center will be closed Nov. 29 and reopen for regular hours Nov. 30.

Charles County Government

On Thursday, Nov. 28:

-- All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville will be closed.

-- VanGO services will not be operating.

-- The Crain Memorial Welcome Center (12480 Crain Highway, Newburg) will be closed.

-- The Nanjemoy Community Center, Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center, Port Tobacco Recreation Center, and all other Community Centers will be closed.

-- All Senior Centers will be closed.

-- Lackey and North Point indoor pools will be closed.

-- The White Plains golf Course will take tee times until noon.

-- The Charles County Skate Park will be closed.

-- All other parks will be open and operating on a normal schedule.

-- The Charles County Landfill and Recycling Center on Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be closed.

-- Curbside recycling will be delayed one day. Thursday pickups will take place on Friday, and Friday pickups will take place on Saturday.

On Friday, Nov. 29:

-- All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville will be closed.

-- VanGO will be operating on a normal schedule.

-- The Crain Memorial Welcome Center (12480 Crain Highway, Newburg) will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

-- The Nanjemoy Community Center, Port Tobacco Recreation Center, and all other Community Centers will be closed.

-- Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Campnastics drop-in program only; There will be no classes, practices, or other evening activities.

-- All Senior Centers will be closed.

-- Lackey and North Point indoor pools will be open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

-- All parks will be open and operating on a normal schedule.

-- The Charles County Landfill and Recycling Center on Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be operating on a normal schedule

-- Every-other-week curbside recycling collection will occur as follows: The Thursday "A" Week Schedule will have their recyclables picked up on Friday, Nov. 29. Those on the Friday "A" Week Schedule will have their recyclables picked up on Saturday, Nov. 30. Monday and Tuesday "A" Week service will not be affected.

-- Yard Waste Collection will occur as follows: Thursday collection service of yard waste will have their yard waste picked up on Friday, Nov. 29. Those with Friday collection service will have their yard waste picked up on Saturday, Nov. 30. Monday and Tuesday service will not be affected.

Charles County Public Schools

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) administrative offices and schools are closed Wednesday, Nov. 27, Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Henry E. Lackey and North Point high schools indoor pools will follow a modified schedule. The indoor pools are closed Nov. 28 and open 1-8 p.m. on Nov. 29.

St. Mary's County Government

All St. Mary's County Government Offices will close Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. County offices will re-open Monday, Dec. 2.

The St. Andrews Landfill, six Convenience Centers and St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will close Thursday, Nov. 28 but will be open for normal business hours on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 29.

All three St. Mary's County Public Library branches will close at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, and remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 28. The libraries will re-open Friday, Nov. 29 for regular business hours.

All Senior Activity Centers will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29 with no Meals on Wheels Delivery. Their normal schedule resumes Monday, Dec. 2.

College of Southern Maryland

The College of Southern Maryland will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 1 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The college will resume its normal schedule Monday, Dec. 2.
