Letter: Thank You to Those Who Supported Packages for Patriots

LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

I want to thank the generous citizens of Southern Maryland for their support Saturday and Sunday at the California Walmart. You made a windy, cold day, warm and wonderful with your donations to our servicemen and women!

We collected 223 bags of supplies including beef jerky, tuna kits, granola bars, drink mixes, body wash, hand sanitizer, baby wipes and many other items you sacrificially purchased while shopping. We also collected $1,186.10 in cash donations to use for the cost of mailing all these supplies. The exciting part is through a matching grant of $5,000 from Cables Plus USA in Richmond, Va. your donation doubled!

The bright, happy faces who handed you a shopping list were the girls of American Heritage Girls, Troop #1410. The enthusiasm and joy they exhibited while serving made this endeavor a huge success. The girls had packed 150 treat sacks filled with candy last Thursday at their meeting at Grace Chapel Church. The leaders, Pam and Meghan, as well as the parents there are leading by example and that is real service.

I want to thank the managers of Walmart, store No. 1981, for giving us this opportunity to do this collection. I especially want to thank managers April and Kim for scheduling us as well as the parking lot/cart workers.

Those who stopped by to remember our patriots as they serve made Veterans Day a tangible way of honoring those now serving. Thank you again to all who serve and have served, and especially to those who gave the last full measure with their very lives. Our nation is better and stronger because of our military.

A special thanks to Mrs. Kaylene Morgan, who has become my friend and co-laborer in this ministry. Her son, SSgt. Isaac Morgan, USAF, a local hometown hero, has honorably served 2 tours in Afghanistan and sending him care packages is how we became friends.

THANK YOU to all of you!
