Charles Co. Sheriff's Reports

LA PLATA, Md. (Nov. 7, 2013)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office released the following incident and arrest reports.

BURGLARY: On Nov. 6 at 4:42 a.m., officers responded to an intrusion alarm at an eyeglass store in the 3000 block of Waldorf Market Place. When officers arrived, they discovered the front window of the store had been broken out. A police K-9 officer and his partner searched the premises but no one was inside. At the time of the report, it appeared only a pair of sunglasses had been stolen; however, an inventory is being done to see if anything else was taken. Officer C. Curtis is investigating.

THEFTS: Sometime between Nov. 2 and Nov. 4, someone stole about 270 gallons of oil from a fuel tank outside the Town of Indian Head building at 4183 Indian Head Highway. While processing the scene, officers learned of another oil theft from a business about 100 yards away. In that case, the lock on the tank had been cut off and about 240 gallons of oil was stolen. The CCSO is reminding residents that theft of oil increases during the cold winter months. Officers have made arrests in these types of cases and emphasize the importance of knowing what to look for to help catch the thieves. Typically, most suspects utilize a pickup truck or a flatbed truck containing large drums, barrels or coolers. They pull directly up to the tank and siphon the oil into the container. Any unusual activity near fuel tanks, no matter the time of day, should be reported immediately to the Sheriff's Office. PFC F. Davis is investigating.

ATTEMPT ROBBERY: On Nov. 4 at 9:20 a.m., a male suspect entered a nail salon in the 2900 block of Shasho Place in Waldorf. He displayed a gun and demanded an employee's purse. The victim refused and fled through a back door. The suspect fled the scene. He is described as a Hispanic male, 5'7" to 5'10" wearing a Spiderman mask, black sweatpants, a black hooded sweat shirt and black tennis shoes. Officer N. Garner is investigating.
