Local Government Schedule Changes for Columbus Day


CALLAWAY, Md.—Local governmental entities announced the following schedule changes for the Columbus Day holiday which will be observed on Monday, Oct. 14.

Calvert County Government

All Calvert County government offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 14.

The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed Oct. 14. Meals on Wheels will be delivered to clients.

All Calvert Library locations will be closed Monday, Oct. 14.

There will be no public transportation services Oct. 14. Regular service will resume Tuesday, Oct. 15.

All Solid Waste facilities will be open and operating on normal business hours on Monday, Oct. 14

The Calvert Marine Museum, Hall Aquatic Center and Northeast Community Center will be open Oct. 14. Mount Hope and Southern community centers and North Beach Recreational Center will be closed. County parks will remain open to visitors.

Charles County Government

The following offices will be closed for normal business hours on Monday, Oct. 14:

-- All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville

-- All Senior Centers

-- The Nanjemoy Community Center

The following offices will be open normal hours on Monday, Oct. 14:

-- The Crain Memorial Welcome Center located at 12480 Crain Highway in Newburg

-- VanGO will operate on a regular weekday service schedule

-- The Charles County Landfill and Recycling Center off Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah

-- Curbside recycling collection service will not be affected

-- Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center and Port Tobacco Recreation Center

-- School based community centers

-- Lackey and North Point High indoor pools

-- Charles County Parks

St. Mary's County Government

All St. Mary's County Government Offices will be closed on Monday, October 14. County offices will re-open on Tuesday, October 15.

The St. Andrews Landfill, Solid Waste/Recycling Program and six convenience centers will be open for normal operating hours and St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will run its regular schedule on Monday, October 14.

All St. Mary's County Libraries and Department of Aging and Human Services Senior Activity Centers will be closed Monday, October 14. There will also be no Meals on Wheels deliveries.

Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)

The MVA will close its full-service and express offices on Saturday October 12, 2013 and Monday, October 14, 2012 in observance of the Columbus Day Holiday. All Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations will also close.

Customers are advised that the days before and after a holiday are especially busy, and they are encourage to “go on-line” to complete their MVA transaction. Many MVA transactions can be completed via the Internet.

Driver’s license and identification card renewals are offered online through the MVA’s website: www.mva.maryland.gov available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The MVA also offers vehicle registration renewals, changes of address, the scheduling of a driver’s skills test, personalized license plates, certified driving record and many more transactions online.
