Charles County Government Facility Closures for Memorial Day Holiday

The Charles County Commissioners wish to remind residents of the following offices and facility schedule changes for Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 27.

The following offices will be closed for normal business hours:

-- All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville will be closed.

-- The Charles County Landfill and Recycling Center on Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be closed.

-- VanGO services will not be operating

-- All Senior Centers are closed

-- The Nanjemoy Community Center, Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center, Port Tobacco Recreation Center and all other Community Centers are closed.

-- Curbside recycling will be pushed one day ahead for the first part of the week. Monday pickups will take place on Tuesday and Tuesday pickups on Wednesday. There are no changes to Thursday and Friday routes.

The following offices will be open for normal or modified business hours:

-- The Crain Memorial Welcome Center located at 12480 Crain Highway in Newburg operating normal hours.

-- Lackey and North Point High indoor pools will be open from 1 p.m. - 9 p.m.

-- Charles County Parks operating normal hours

Commissioners Support the 2013 Torch Run for Special Olympics

On Tuesday, May 14 the Charles County Commissioners showed their support for the 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maryland being held on June 6. The County Commissioners encourage county employees to participate in the event and/or purchase and wear their t-shirts to support this worthwhile fundraiser.

Torch Run shirts are $10 and available in sizes from small to XXXL. Dri-Fit shirts are also available for $15. Hats are $10. Contact Sgt. Proctor at 240-299-5207 or ProctorA@ccso.us.

Commissioners Proclaim May 19-25 as EMS Week

On Tuesday, May 14, the County Commissioners presented proclamation #2013-34, designating the week of May 19-25, 2013, as Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Week. National EMS Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line."

Commissioners Recognize Potomac River Watershed Cleanup Volunteers

On Tuesday, May 14 the Charles County Commissioners recognized 496 citizens who participated in the April 2013 Potomac River Watershed Cleanup. These volunteers helped ensure clean water by working to clean up the watershed for all of Charles County to enjoy. Approximately 68 tons of debris was diverted from our waterways at 18 different sites.
