County Commissioners to Host Public Forum on May 7

The St. Mary's Board of County Commissioners will host a Public Forum on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Commissioners Meeting Room inside the Chesapeake Building. The building is located at 41770 Baldridge Street, Leonardtown, Maryland. Citizens are invited to attend the forum and address the members of the Board of County Commissioners on any matter they wish.

The Public Forum will air live on St. Mary's County Government TV 95 (SMCG TV 95) and videotaped for subsequent broadcast. The forum can also be viewed on the county's website at www.stmarysmd.com. Click on Videos.

Anyone wishing to speak at the Public Forum will be allowed up to three (3) minutes to address Commissioners. Those wishing to provide more detailed comments may do so via email or regular mail.

Airport Advisory Committee's May Meeting Rescheduled

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee for May has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 18, 2013 due to the Memorial Day weekend.

The committee will use the opportunity to inspect the airport facility after the public meeting. The meeting will begin at 9:00 AM at the Captain Walter F. Duke Terminal Building.

Volunteers Still Wanted to Represent County on Property Tax Assessment Appeal Board

St. Mary's County continues to seek citizen representatives for the Property Tax Assessment Appeal Board.

Interested applicants will need to submit an Appointee Exemption Disclosure Form, a Biographical Information Form and a copy of their resume for consideration.

Forms can be found on the Property Tax Assessment Appeals webpage on the County website at http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/voluntr/Tax%20Appeal.asp.

Completed forms should be returned to Diane Gleissner, Senior Administrative Coordinator, St. Mary's County Office of the County Attorney, P.O. Box 653, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Submissions can also be faxed to 301-475-4660 or emailed to diane.gleissner@stmarysmd.com. The deadline to submit forms and information has been extended to the close of business on Friday, May 17, 2013.

Fallen Law Enforcement Officers to be Honored At Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Event

Officers of the Year Will Also be Recognized

The St. Mary's County Department of Aging, TRIAD/S.A.L.T. (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) council, and the Board of County Commissioners will sponsor Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. The 13th annual ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, 44219 Airport Road, California, MD 20619.

The event is held each year during National Police Memorial Week to pay tribute to law officers who have perished in the line of duty as well as honors the "Officer of the Year" selected by each county agency, based on their outstanding service to the community.

Volunteers Still Needed for Boards, Committees and Commissions

The call is still out for any citizen interested in volunteering to serve on various Boards, Committees and Commissions. Detailed descriptions of the various board openings and membership application are available on the County's website at http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/voluntr/. The deadline to receive applications and resumes has been extended to Friday, May 31, 2013.

-- Family Violence: Representative needed from Clergy, also person sought as an Advocate

-- Metropolitan Commission: Representatives needed from Election District 1 (Dameron, Scotland, St. Inigoes, St. Mary's City) and Election District 2 & 9 (Callaway Drayden, Great Mills, Piney Point, Tall Timbers, Valley Lee and St. George Island)
