2nd Annual Pride in the Park Parade to Honor Pax River's 70th Anniversary

The Lexington Park Business and Community Association will dedicate its second annual Pride in the Park Parade to the celebration of the community’s 70-year partnership with the Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River. NAS Patuxent River was commissioned in 1943. April 1st marked the 70th year since the opening of the installation.

The 2013 Pride in the Park Parade takes place on Saturday, May 4th. The parade steps off at 10:00 a.m. from the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department. The parade will then travel on South Shangri-La and South Essex Drives towards Great Mills Road. The parade will turn east on Great Mills Road to the alley way between Endless Summer Tanning and Raley’s Home Furnishings where the parade will end.

This year’s parade will feature the Great Mills High School Parade Band and Navy Junior R.O.T.C., youth groups from Lexington Park Elementary School, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Color Guard and NAS Patuxent River Color Guard, the St. Mary’s County Library Book Cart Brigade, numerous scout troops, car clubs and local businesses. Wicomico Shores Golf Course Advisory Board Meeting Rescheduled

The St. Mary's County Department of Recreation and Parks announces that the Wicomico Shores Golf Course Advisory Board meeting, originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, 2013, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 24, 2013. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Golf Course Clubhouse.

Wicomico Shores Golf Course Advisory Board meetings are generally held quarterly, on the third Wednesday of the month, at 6:00 P.M., at the Wicomico Shores Golf Course.

Volunteers Sought for Boards, Committees and Commissions

If you've been seeking an opportunity to play a more active role in your community, now is your chance.

The St. Mary's Board of County Commissioners is calling all citizens interested in volunteering their time to the community by serving on various Boards, Committees and Commissions. Detailed descriptions of the various board openings and membership application are available on the County's website at http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/voluntr/. All applications must include a resume and be submitted no later than Friday, May 10, 2013.

Openings are available with the Commission for Women, Commission on Aging, Ethics Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Housing Authority Board, Human Relations Commission, and Social Services Board.

The following boards have special membership requirements. Citizens should specify which position they are applying for and ensure their resume reflects their qualifications for that particular position.

-- Commission for People with Disabilities. Representatives needed from DDA, Abilities Network, CSM & Greenwell

-- Ethics Commission. Alternate Member needed

-- Family Violence. Representative needed from Clergy, also person sought as an Advocate

-- Metropolitan Commission. Representatives needed from Election District 1 (Dameron, Scotland, St. Inigoes, St. Mary's City) and Election District 2 & 9 (Callaway Drayden, Great Mills, Piney Point, Tall Timbers, Valley Lee and St. George Island)
