CSM Men's Basketball Team Heads to Regional Tournament

LA PLATA, Md. (February 28, 2013)—The College of Southern Maryland No. 10 seeded men’s basketball team is heading to the Region XX Tournament-Division 2 at Hagerstown Community College to face No. 7 seeded Garrett College. The teams play at 4 p.m. on March 1.

The CSM Hawks faced the Lakers during the regular season, winning 69-61. In that game, CSM sophomore Devon Brown, of Waldorf, contributed 20 points and four steals, and freshman Juwan Cole, of Suitland, added another 14 points and three steals.

“Both led the team in that game and throughout the season,” said CSM Athletic Coordinator Nicholas Williams.

On the season, Brown is averaging 19.9 points per game and is shooting at 82 percent, and Cole is averaging 16.3 points per game and shooting 70 percent. Sophomore Sheldon Thorne, of Bryans Road, is leading the team in rebounds averaging 6.7 per game.

The winner will advance, to play No. 2 seeded Chesapeake College at 5 p.m. on March 2.
