Another Motorcyclist Dies on So. Md. Roads


CALIFORNIA, Md. (August 25, 2011)—Maryland State Police report that motorcyclist Philip Lyle Woodford, Jr., 52, of La Plata, died Tuesday evening after being struck by a 2011 Chevrolet Impala driven by Stephanie Ann Orbits, 39, of Pomfret.

Police investigators determined that Orbits was attempting to make a U-turn from northbound US Route 301 to southbound US Route 301 at Demarr Road in White Plains. Woodford was traveling southbound on US Route 301 in lane #1 on his 2009 Honda Shadow. Police say Ms. Orbits failed to yield right of way to Mr. Woodford and her Impala subsequently struck the motorcycle.

Mr. Woodford was pronounced deceased on the scene. His body was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office.

The time of the accident is listed as 7:52 p.m.
