MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (August 22, 2011)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

THEFT OVER $1000: On Thursday, August 18 at 5:50pm, TFC E. M. Evans responded to the Wendy's located at 45460 Miramar Way in California for a reported theft. Upon arrival, contact was made with a female complainant, 46, of Lexington Park, who advised the nightly deposit for the store was stolen from the manager's office. The complainant advised that all of the employees that were in the store during the time of the theft were still on the premises. TFC Evans conducted interviews with all available witnesses. Finally an interview was conducted with potential suspect, Stephen Wayne Chase, 40, of California. Information provided by Mr. Chase resulted in TFC Evans responding with Mr. Chase to an address in the 45000 block of Elton Lane in California. At that location, Mr. Chase made contact with a female subject, to whom he had given the money. TFC Evans confiscated the stolen money and subsequently placed Mr. Chase under arrest for Theft Over $1000.00. Mr. Chase was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. The recovered money was released to the the appropriate personnel of Wendy's management.

DRUG ARREST: On Thursday, August 18 at 6:01pm, TFC J. A. Pilkerton conducted a traffic stop on a Ford passenger vehicle in the area of Maryland Route 5 and Old Flora Corner Road for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the vehicle, the operator was identified as Jesse Berchman Higgs, 18, of Hollywood. While speaking with Mr. Higgs, TFC Pilkerton detected the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle was performed revealed CDS on the rear floor board of the vehicle. Mr. Higgs was arrested for Possession of CDS - Not Marijuana, CDS - Marijuana and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT OVER $100: On Friday, August 19 at 6:19pm, Tpr. B. T. Wiesemann responded to the Wal-Mart on Miramar Way in California for a reported shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, contact was made with loss prevention staff who advised that a female subject was observed placing various items (electronics, clothing, etc) into a purse. The female subject, identified as Jeanette Marie Price, 48, of Lusby, concealed the items and then went through the retail checkout where she purchased additional items that were in her shopping cart. However, Ms. Price was observed attempting to exit the store without purchasing the remainder of the items. She was stopped by loss prevention and detained until law enforcement arrival. Tpr. Wiesemann interviewed Ms. Price and information provided by her resulted in her arrest for Theft Over $100.00. Ms. Price was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where she was charged and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. All merchandise was returned to the retailer.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Saturday, August 20 at 11:50pm, TFC J. S. Gibson served a Bench Warrant (T3-13147) on Roger Swane Thomas, 40, of Drayden. The warrant was issued on November 8, 2007 by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of Driving Under the Influence and Driving On A Suspended or Revoked License. Mr. Thomas was located in the 21000 block of Great Mills Road and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Sunday, August 21 at 2:36am, Tpr. S. M. Ditoto conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Impala in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Exploration Drive for a traffic violation. Upon contacting the vehicle, Tpr. Ditoto detected the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. All occupants of the vehicle were identified, including a passenger, Michael Duane Savoy, 27, of Mechanicsville. A probable cause search of the vehicle and occupants was performed. Results were negative for both the vehicle and two of the vehicle's occupants. However, a search of Mr. Savoy's person revealed CDS - Marijuana. Mr. Savoy was placed under arrest for Possession of CDS and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. All other occupants of the vehicle were released on the scene.
