ANNAPOLIS (April 30, 2011)The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) released the following incident and arrest reports. NRP is the enforcement arm of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). NRP is the only police force aside from the Maryland State Police that has statewide jurisdiction.
DRUG ARREST - CAROLINE COUNTY: The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) has charged William Ashton Bonneville of Ridgely with possession of marijuana, possession of a schedule 2 controlled dangerous substance, possession of paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license. At 1:15 p.m. April 8, NRP stopped Bonneville,18 , for spinning the tires of his motor vehicle in Martinak State Park in Denton. Bonnevilles drivers license was found to be suspended and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed suspected marijuana and Percocet. A trial has been set in the District Court of Maryland for Caroline County.
BOAT ACCIDENT - ST. MARYS COUNTY: NRP is investigating a boat accident that sank a vessel and left the three passengers with minor injuries. At 7:30 p.m. April 14, NRP responded to the area of Smith Creek off the Potomac River for a VHF radio call about a capsized vessel. A preliminary investigation revealed that three men were traveling 40 mph in a 16 foot vessel when it stopped suddenly. The men were thrown into the windshield and sustained lacerations to hands and arms. The vessel sank within seconds of the accident with extensive damage to the transom, motor and aft, which detached.
BOAT ACCIDENT - QUEEN ANNE COUNTY: Five men were recently rescued by a Good Samaritan and NRP after their boat capsized near Bloody Point Light in the Chesapeake Bay. At 8:10 a.m. on April 17, NRP responded to a report of a vessel sinking 3 miles northeast of Bloody Point Light during a storm with 25 knot winds. The five passengers of the vessel were picked up by a Good Samaritan fishing vessel, which then began experiencing difficulty staying afloat when the waves began filling it up due to overloading.
NRP was able to locate the Good Samaritan vessel and remove the five individuals. The Good Samaritan vessel was able to make it shore under its own power.
The men, Philip Schlotzhauer Jr., 35, of Centreville; Brian Board Sr., 31, of Denton; Bernard Hajek, 21, of Federalsburg; Christopher Hajek, 20, of Federalsburg; and William Schein III, 23, were transported to the Queens Anne County boat ramp located at Matapeake.
Anne Arundel Fire Department, Coast Guard, and Maryland State Police Aviation assisted in the search for the vessel.
ILLEGAL HUNTING - ALLEGANY COUNTY: NRP charged three men April 18 with hunting wild turkeys with the aid of bait. Mark Edward Davis Jr., 23, of Cumberland and Bradley Edward Shaffer, 36, of Chambersburg, Pa., were found hunting wild turkeys on private property near Cumberland. Jackie Lee Booth, 76, of Frostburg was found hunting on private property in the Frostburg area. Trials will be set in District Court for all three men.
ILLEGAL HUNTING - GARRETT COUNTY: NRP charged Stephen Wayne Huber, 58, of Kingsville, Md. with two counts of exceeding the daily bag limit of wild turkeys. On April 19, an officer was investigating a trespassing complaint on Cranesville Road when Huber was found with the turkeys. A trial has been set for June 16 in the District Court of Maryland for Oakland.
