New Parent Notification System Coming to Calvert Schools

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (January 29, 2011) — In the upcoming months, Calvert County Public Schools will begin using a new notification system called SchoolMessenger. Through this new program, schools will be able to send automated attendance notifications as well as manual notifications to parents and guardians via phone, email, and/or text messaging.

Schools will be able to send several types of notifications with this new system, including:

— attendance notifications (will be automated and run each day for absent students);

— emergency notifications;

— school schedule changes (delayed opening, early dismissal, closed for the day); and

— general announcements from schools.

For the past several years, the school system has used an email notification system called Lyris. During the transition period to SchoolMessenger, both systems will be used to ensure parents receive all messages. Once SchoolMessenger has been fully implemented, Lyris will be disabled.

The school system is phasing in the use of SchoolMessenger. When a school begins its transition to this new system, parents of children in that school will receive information regarding the use of SchoolMessenger as well as a unique student activation letter.
