LA PLATA, Md. (January 28, 2011) — The La Plata High School NJROTC air rifle team won first place in the Area 5 Precision Air Rifle Championships, held Saturday, Jan. 22. As first-place winners, the La Plata team advances to the national event scheduled for Feb. 10-11 in Alabama.
Student members include sophomores Douglas Duehring and Tyler Thorne, and freshman John Hancock and Cody Thorne. Duehring received a medal for earning second place in the individual precision category. Cody Thorne also received a medal for winning third place in the individual category.
Additionally, Tyler Thorne earned fourth place in the individual rankings, followed by Hancock in fifth place. The event was open to students in Maryland and Virginia.
