Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (January 4, 2011)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH THEFT OF TRAILERS: On January 3, Charles County Sheriff's detectives arrested Calvin Theo Payne, 47, of Virginia, in connection with the thefts of multiple carry on trailers. The trailers were stolen from a plant in Montross, Virginia in early December and later recovered in Charles County. After a month long joint investigation with police in Westmoreland County, Virginia, Payne was arrested after trying to sell the trailers to another person. Payne was charged with unauthorized removal of property and theft over $1,000.

SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT: On December 31, officers with the Traffic Operations Unit conducted a DUI checkpoint near St. Charles Parkway and Gallery Place in Waldorf. A total of 795 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in which officers arrested one person for DUI and issued 14 citations, 4 warnings and 2 equipment repair orders.

THEFTS FROM AUTOS: On January 2 at about 2 a.m., officers responded to the area of Springfish Place in Waldorf for the report of suspicious people. Upon arrival, officers canvassed the area but the suspects fled. Officers discovered several cars had been broken into and iPods, GPS units and money were stolen; the valuables had been left in the cars overnight. The Sheriff's Office is reminding people to remove valuables from cars that will be left unattended. Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call (301) 932-2222. Charles County Crime Solvers is offering cash reward of up to $1,000 for the tip that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspects. Tipsters may call 1-866-411-TIPS.

BURGLARY: On December 31 between 6:45 a.m. - December 21 at 6:30 a.m., unknown suspects broke into a house in the 6700 block of Dolphin Court in Waldorf and stole jewelry and money. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence.

ROBBERY: On December 30 at 2:21 a.m., two suspects wearing masks entered the Shell gas station at 3620 Mattawoman Beantown Road in Waldorf. They displayed what appeared to be a gun and demanded cigarettes. The victim complied and the suspects fled in a blue sedan. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence.
