Local Government Christmas Holiday Schedule Changes


CALIFORNIA, Md. (December 21, 2010)—Local governments announced closings and schedule changes for the coming Christmas and New Year's holidays.

CALVERT COUNTY

All Calvert County government offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 31.

The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered either day and Meals on Wheels clients will receive holiday baskets and shelf-stable meals for the two holidays.

All Calvert County library branches will be closed Dec. 23 through Dec. 25, and Dec. 31 through Jan. 1.

The Calvert County Transportation Division will be running a reduced bus schedule for Friday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 31.

Appeal Landfill and all compactor sites will close at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, and will reopen Sunday, Dec. 26. Sunday hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the Appeal Landfill scales will be closed to commercial haulers.

Appeal Landfill and all compactor sites will close at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, and remain closed Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. The Appeal Landfill and the Barstow and Mt. Hope convenience centers will reopen Sunday, Jan. 2 for regular business hours.

Holiday gift boxes may be recycled at all Calvert County convenience centers. Residents should flatten boxes and deposit them in convenience center paper recycling bins. Paper and cardboard boxes may also be collected in plastic bags and dropped off at the Appeal Landfill. Bagged paper drop-off is available at Appeal Landfill only from Dec. 27 through Jan. 7.

Residents may also drop off Christmas trees for recycling at all solid waste sites free of charge through Jan. 31. After Jan. 31, all Christmas trees may be disposed of at the Appeal Landfill for a fee.

CHARLES COUNTY

The offices of Charles County Government and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville will be closed on Friday, December 24, and Friday, December 31.

The Charles County landfill and all recycling centers will be closed on Saturday, December 25, and Saturday, January 1, in observance of the holidays. Curbside recycling service will not be affected by the closures.

ST. MARY'S COUNTY

County offices will be closed for business on Friday, December 24 for the Christmas holiday. All County offices will reopen on Monday, December 27 for normal business hours. All county offices will also be closed on Friday, December 31, New Years Eve.

St. Mary's Bus Transit (STS) will operate all weekday routes until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 24 and resume its regular schedule on December 26. There will be no STS service on December 25 or January 1.

The St. Andrews Landfill and six Convenience Centers will be closed on Saturday, December 25 and Sunday, December 26, in observance of the Christmas holidays and Saturday, January 1 and Sunday, January 2 in observance of New Years, respectively. The convenience centers will be open early for operations the week of December 27 through December 31, specifically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the landfill will be open for normal business hours during that week.

All three libraries will be closed Thursday, December 23 through Sunday, December 26 in observance of the Christmas holidays and they will be closed on Friday, December 31 through Sunday, January 2 in observance of New Years.

St. Mary's County Senior Activity Centers will be closed and there will be no Meals on Wheels Delivery on Friday, December 24 and Friday, December 31.

The St. Mary's County Health Department, a state agency, will be closed Friday, December 24 and Friday, December 31 for the holidays. The Health Department will also be closed on Thursday, December 23 and Thursday, December 30 for Maryland Salary Reduction Days.

COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND (CSM)

The last day of classes for the Fall 2010 semester and Minisession II is Monday, December 20. The college will close at 3 p.m., Wednesday, December 22 through Sunday, January 2 in observance of the winter holidays. The college will resume its normal schedule Monday, January 3 at 8 a.m.

During this time, access to the college’s online services, including registration, remains available at www.csmd.edu through my.CSMD services.

Classes begin for Spring 2010 semester and Minisession I on Tuesday, January 18.

STATE PARKS

As part of the State’s Furlough and Temporary Salary Reduction Plan, Maryland State Parks and other public lands managed by the State will be closed during service reduction days for the 2010 holiday season. Public use parking lots, buildings and other facilities will not be available on those days. Maryland State Parks will be open and operational on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The holiday closing schedule is as follows:

* December 23 – Service Reduction Day
* December 25 (Christmas Day)
* December 30 – Service Reduction Day

All State Park camping and cabin reservations will be honored on those days. Law enforcement personnel (Maryland Park Service Rangers and Natural Resources Police) will be on duty during the holidays and service reduction days.

In addition to regular holidays (Christmas Day and New Years Day), all DNR offices and service centers will be closed on service reduction days (December 23, Christmas Eve, December 30 and New Years Eve) as well.

COMMUTER BUS 2010 HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

There is no commuter bus service on December 24 and 31.

December 20, 21, and 22: FULL SERVICE

December 23: Modified PM Schedule (See below)

December 27, 28, and 29: FULL SERVICE

December 30: Modified PM Schedule (See below)

MODIFIED SCHEDULE FOR THURSDAY AFTERNOON DECEMBER 23rd and 30th (AM will operate as scheduled):

On all trips being doubled up, the 2nd bus will start its trip 5 minutes after the 1st buses regularly scheduled departure time.

The following changes will be implemented on the afternoon of Thursday, December 23, AND Thursday, December 30:

Baltimore Service

Route 310 -Will run regular service and special midday trip departing Johns Hopkins at 1:10 p.m., and will serve
the same stops at Trip #6.

Route 320 -No changes (will run regular service).

Route 410 -No changes (will run regular service).

Route 411 -No changes (will run regular service).

Route 420 - Will run as scheduled. Also, Trip A (Friday mid-day) will also run.

Washington D.C. Service

Route 901 - Trips 44, 49, 53, and 59 will not operate as scheduled. Instead, three buses will run trip 31(mid-day).
Two buses each will run trips 32 and 33, making all regularly scheduled stops.

Route 902 - Trips 30 and 33 will not operate as scheduled. Instead, two buses each will run trips 18(mid-day) and 19,
making all regularly scheduled stops.

Route 903 -No changes (will run regular service).

Route 904 - Trips 23 and 25 will not operate as scheduled. Instead, two buses each will run trips 15(mid-day) and 16.
Both of trips 15 and 16 will consolidate at Pindell, with 1 trip each continuing on to North Beach.

Route 905 - Trips 40, 43, and 46 will not operate as scheduled. Instead, three buses will run trips 24(mid-day) and two will run trip 25.

All of trips 24 and 25 will consolidate at Charlotte Hall, with a trip continuing on to California.

Route 907 - No changes (will run regular service).

Route 909 - No changes (will run regular service).

Route 915 - Trip 17 and 21 will not operate as scheduled. Instead, they will depart M & 8th Sts. at 1:40 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., and will serve the same stops as trip 12.

Route 922 - Trip 22 will not operate as scheduled. Instead, it will depart N. Capitol & H Sts. at 1:00 p.m., and will make all regularly scheduled stops.

Route 929 - Trips 20 and 23 will not operate as scheduled. Instead, two buses each will run trips 13 (mid-day) and 14,
making all regularly scheduled stops.

Route 950 - Trip 31 will not operate as scheduled. Instead, it will depart C St. & 21 St. at 1:15 p.m., and will serve the same stops as trip 18.

Route 991 - Trips 25 and 28 will not operate as scheduled. Instead, two buses each will run trips 18 (mid-day) and 19.
Both of trips 18 and 19 will consolidate at Monocacy, with 1 trip each continuing on to Hagerstown.

Route 995 - Trips 22 and 26 will operate 3 hours earlier than scheduled, departing 19th and M Sts. at 1:35 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.. Both trips will serve same stops as trip 26.
