MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (December 6, 2010)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

DRUG ARREST: On Wednesday, December 1, at 10:39 p.m., TFC N. E. Gresko was responding to a reported theft at the Wawa located at Maryland Route 235 and Maryland Route 5. The Emergency Communications Center broadcasted that the suspects had left the scene and advised a description of the vehicle. While approaching the establishment, TFC Gresko observed a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Maryland Route 6. Upon making contact with the sole occupant of the vehicle, Clifton Cornelius Pickeral, 28, of No Fixed Address, a MVA/NCIC query indicated that the tags on the vehicle were stolen and Mr. Pickeral's license was suspended. Mr. Pickeral was arrested for Possession of Stolen Tags and Driving While Suspended. While conducting a search incident to arrest Mr. Pickeral was found to be hiding CDS in his mouth. Mr. Pickeral was transported to St. Mary's County Detention Center and charged accordingly. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Sunday, December 5, at 11:05 a.m., Tpr. E. R. Mersman served two warrants on Catrena Dorthea Lake, 29, of Saint Leonard. Both warrants were issued on June 18, 2010 by the District Court of Calvert County with original charges of Theft $500 Plus Value (T3-14661) and Uttering False Document (T3-14662). Ms. Lake was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On December 3 at approximately 1224 hours, a motor vehicle collision occurred on southbound MD Route 5, south of Hills Club Road, Mechanicsville. The collision occurred between a 2008 Ford Escape and a 2002 Ford F-250 work truck.

Preliminary investigation revealed the 2008 Ford Escape was traveling south in lane #2. The 2002 Ford F-250 was traveling south in lane #1. The driver of the 2008 Ford Escape attempted to turn left from lane #2, crossing lane #1, into the parking lot of the 7-11 business, located in the median.

As the 2008 Ford Escape crossed lane # 1, it crossed into the path of the 2002 Ford F-250. The 2002 Ford F-250 struck the driver's side of the 2008 Ford Escape, pushing the vehicle off the roadway. The driver of the 2008 Ford Escape, Ruth Weaver Moran, 69 years of age, of Huntingtown, MD, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Two passengers in the vehicle, a 76 year old male from Huntingtown, MD and an 82 year old female from Prince Frederick, MD, were transported to St. Mary's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the 2002 Ford F-250 was not injured as a result of the collision.
