SHA Shuts Down Two Right Lanes on Northbound I-95/I-495 in P.G. County

Crews Repair Damaged Safety Shield to Protect Drivers

(November 23, 2010) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) today temporarily closed two right lanes of northbound I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) at the Forestville Road Bridge after an over-height vehicle struck a safety shield underneath the bridge. SHA will reopen the lanes as soon as the damaged metal structure is secured and it is safe for motorists.

SHA expects traffic to be heavy and backups to occur until the lanes are reopened, possibly by 5 p.m.

The safety shield is in place as part of the Forestville Road Bridge rehabilitation project to keep construction debris from falling on the highway below. The bridge clearance is 14 feet high and signs displaying the clearance are on both sides of I-95/I-495 as well as the overhead digital message signs.
