Charles County Sheriff's Reports

LA PLATA, Md. (November 9, 2010)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

BURGLARY: On November 8 at 11:08 p.m., officers responded to the Bel Alton Thrift Store at 9190 Crain Highway in Bel Alton for the report of an intrusion alarm. Upon arrival, officers observed a broken window. They checked the building and no one was found inside. The owner responded and said nothing appeared to be missing. Officer K. Newman is investigating.

MAN CHARGED WITH BURGLARY AND POSSESSION OF DRUGS: On November 6 at 12:21 p.m., officers responded to the 6000 block of Paternoster Lane in Hughesville after a teenaged girl and her younger sister called 911 to report an unknown male had entered their house through an unlocked back door and was walking around. The girls stayed on the phone with 911 as officers responded. When Sgt. E. Weaver and his K-9 partner, JOKO, arrived, he observed the suspect, Johnny Duane Edwards, 40, of Mechanicsville, exit the back door. Sgt. Weaver apprehended Edwards without incident. A check revealed Edwards is a former acquaintance of a family member who lives in the house, but that he hadn't been seen in years and did not have permission to be inside. Edwards, who was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, was charged with burglary and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

DRUG POSSESSION: On Nov. 3 at 8:46 p.m., Cpl. J. Timko of the Charles County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the 10900 block of Beechwood Court in Waldorf. Cpl. Timko found the vehicle unoccupied but observed marijuana in plain view on the dashboard. After a quick canvass of nearby houses he found the owner of the vehicle, Erica Paige Davis, 22, of Clinton. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Cpl. Timko discovered a burnt marijuana cigarette on the floorboard. Davis was charged with drug possession and was released pending a court appearance.

DRUG POSSESSION: On Nov. 2 at 4:14 p.m., Cpl. J. Timko of the Charles County Sheriff's Office was patrolling East Mattingly Avenue in Indian Head when he observed a vehicle parked in a parking space and occupied by two individuals. Upon closer inspection, he observed a plastic cigar wrapper and drug paraphernalia discarded on the ground beside the vehicle. He confronted the occupants of the vehicle and discovered the occupant in the driver's seat, Brian Antoine Proctor, 24, of Indian Head, was in possession of marijuana. Proctor was charged with drug possession and was released pending a court appearance.
