St. Mary's County BCI Police Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (October 26, 2010)—The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) released the following incident and arrest reports. BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES

During the month of October, police units responded to several residential burglaries in the Hollywood area of St. Mary's County. Handguns, U.S. currency, a safe, and other personal items were stolen from the residences. BCI assumed the investigation and developed suspects in the case. Further investigation led to the execution of several search and seizure warrants at various locations in the Hollywood and Leonardtown area. Several of the handguns and personal property belonging to the victims were recovered.

Kyle R. Sargent, age 18; David A. Johnson, Jr., age 19; a 15-year-old male juvenile; and a 16-year-old male juvenile, all of Hollywood were arrested. The four suspects were charged with First Degree Burglary, Theft over $1,000 and Theft over $10,000. Sargent and Johnson, Jr. were incarcerated in the detention center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. The two juveniles were transported Cheltenham Youth facility pending further action by juvenile authorities. Additional charges are pending following a review by the States Attorney.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

(Arrest photo)In September, BCI received a complaint of an alleged sexual offense involving a registered child sexual offender, Cleveland Dwight Hall II, age 30, of Hollywood, pictured at left. It was reported that the sex offense was committed in October of 2009 on a child left in Hall's custody. As a result of the complaint, an investigation was conducted in coordination with the Department of Parole and Probation and the Sex Offender Registry Unit.

In September, Hall was arrested on a probation violation and returned to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he has remained in custody on the violation of probation charge.

As a result the investigation, on October 21, Hall was served court papers charging him with Second Degree Sexual Offense, Second Degree Child Abuse and Second Degree Assault on the child. Hall remains incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center. Additional charges are pending a review with the State's Attorney.

HOME INVASION, ROBBERY

On October 20, officers responded to a residence in Park Hall for an armed robbery. Officers on the scene determined two masked men broke into an occupied residence in Park Hall and restrained the female occupant at knife point. The masked men ransacked the residence looking for money and other valuables. The men fled the scene on foot.

Officers en-route to the call were informed that family members had located one of the suspects and detained him. The second suspect fled on foot. When officers arrived on the scene the man provided several false names and was turned over to the custody of BCI. Detectives identified him as William Lewis Lawrence, age 23, of Lexington Park. Lawrence had two outstanding warrants from other law enforcement agencies including a Violation of Probation for Armed Robbery and another warrant for Second Degree Assault.

Through an extensive investigation, detectives identified Tyrone Jason Heard, age 27, of Lexington Park, as the second person involved in the robbery and identified Latece C. Greer, age 22, of Lexington Park, as a co-conspirator and accessory. Detectives, along with the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services Team, executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence in Lexington Park. Heard was arrested at the residence.

All three suspects were arrested on October 20, transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center, and charged with the following offenses:

Tyrone Jason Heard: Armed Robbery, Assault - First Degree, Assault - Second Degree, Burglary - First Degree, False Imprisonment, and Theft less than $1000 .

William Lewis Lawrence: Armed Robbery, Assault - First Degree, Assault - First Degree, Burglary - First Degree, Theft less than $1000.

Latece Chantelle Greer: Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Assault, Conspiracy to Commit Second Degree Assault, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft.

The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are pending a case review with the State's Attorney.
