One Dead, One Critical in Single Car Crash in Calvert

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (June 21, 2010)—A single vehicle accident Sunday afternoon on Shamrock Court in Port Republic left the driver, Nicholas Adam Grigsby, 27 of Lexington Park, dead and the passenger, Darrell Charles Demarr, 49 of Waldorf, in critical condition.

Police determined that the red 2010 Chevrolet Camaro R6, operated by Grigsby, was traveling south bound on Shamrock Court when the vehicle left the roadway and entered a side skid. The vehicle subsequently went airborne after striking a culvert. Shortly after going airborne the vehicle's driver side door struck a tree.

Both occupants were extricated from the vehicle. Grigsby sustained mortal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by members of the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department. Demarr was transported to the Prince Georges County Shock Trauma Center by Maryland State Police Trooper 7. At the time this story was written, Demarr remains in critical but stable condition.

The preliminary examination of the vehicle indicated that safety belts were not being used by either occupant at the time of the collision.

Cpl. V. Bortchevsky of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team (CRT) is conducting an investigation into the events that lead up to the collision. Any additional information regarding this crash should be forwarded to Cpl. Bortchevsky at bortchvi@co.cal.md.us or 410-535-2800.
