Calvert County Sheriff's Reports


PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (April 19, 2010) - The Calvert County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: During the week of April 12 through April 18, deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office responded to 1,741 calls for service throughout the community. Additionally, deputies arrested 6 people and charged them with DWI/DUI during the week.

TRESPASSING: On April 12 at 12:47 a.m. DFC S. Morder responded to Calvert Memorial Hospital for a trespassing complaint. Security for the hospital advised that a woman who had been admitted, treated and released from the emergency room was refusing to leave the hospital. The woman was seen taking items from various rooms. The items were confiscated by security and she was advised to leave the premises but she did not. DFC Morder arrested Sharon Annmarie Surgeon, 42 of Ft. Washington, and charged her with trespassing.

SHOPLIFTING: On April 12 at 3:06 p.m. DFC D. Deakins arrested Heather Lynn Nelson, 21 of Huntingtown, and charged her with theft after she was caught stealing approximately $30 worth of items from the Dunkirk Walmart store. The items were returned to the store.

THEFT: Approximately $930 in copper was stolen from a storage shed of a home on H.G. Trueman Road in Lusby between February of this year and April 12. DFC E. Bradley is investigating the theft.

DAMAGED PROPERTY: Dep. A. Lawton is investigating damage to the sign at Mt. Gethsemane Church on Ponds Wood Road in Huntingtown that occurred between 9:30 p.m. April 11 and 1:00 p.m. April 12. Approximately $800 in damage was done.

CDS VIOLATION: DFC B. Gray charged Clifton Wayne Ladd, Jr., 18 of Dunkirk, with possession of marijuana after he was found with it in his possession on Bay Ave at 3rd Street in North Beach on April 12 at 8:16 p.m.

BURGLARY: The Christian Fellowship Hall on Mt. Harmony Road in Owings was burglarized in the early morning hours on April 13. About $50 was stolen. Anyone with information is asked to contact DFC D. Deakins at 410-535-2800.

THEFT: A two and one half ton Gibson heat pump valued at $1200 was stolen from outside a home on Erie Ave in North Beach. The date of the theft is unknown. Please contact F/Sgt D.C. Bowen if you have further information at 410-535-2800.

THEFT FROM VEHICLES: Two vehicle owners on Hollow Way in Huntingtown had their cars broken into and change stolen from within overnight between April 12 and 13. One of the vehicles had been left unlocked, it is unknown if the other had been locked. Dep. R. Kreps is investigating.

CDS VIOLATION: On April 16 at 4:00 a.m. DFC M. Robshaw conducted a traffic stop at Md. Rt. 4 south near Apple Way in Dunkirk. The driver, later identified as Stephen James Diglio, 20 of Lutherville, was cited for being in possession of alcohol under the age of 21 and was charged with possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, a glass smoking device.

DISORDERLY: Dep. F. Winston arrested Dale Lee Tierney, 29 of Waldorf on April 17 at 12:35 a.m. and charged him with failing to obey a lawful order after he was asked five times to stop interfering with an investigation while officers were arresting another man outside of Vera's in Lusby who was yelling profanities.

FLEEING AND ELUDING: Dep. F. Winston attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed on Md. Rt. 4 in Dunkirk. The 2006 maroon Kawasaki motorcycle was being driven recklessly southbound on Rt. 4 where the driver was changing lanes and then went around a stationary vehicle at a red light at Ward Road. The bike made a U-turn and proceeded north on Md. Rt. 4. At this time, Dep. D. Deakins assisted in the pursuit. The bike continued at a high rate of speed, crossing over in front of Dep. Deakins patrol vehicle, passing vehicles on the right shoulder of the roadway. At one point, the driver of the motorcycle drove up the dotted center line of the roadway in between vehicles. Dep. Winston pulled up alongside the motorcycle and pointed to the driver to pull over. The driver then appeared to be attempting to go around the patrol vehicle when its' mirror struck the driver's side door of the police vehicle. Dep. Winston and Dep. Deakins were able to force the motorcycle to come to a complete stop. The driver, identified as Jorell Devin Swann, 31 of Upper Marlboro, indicated he was not injured. He was charged with reckless driving, negligent driving, and fleeing and eluding as well as numerous other traffic violations.
