MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Feb. 22, 2010) - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) released the following incident and arrest reports.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Thursday, February 18 at 1:00 pm, Charles Clayton Beach, Jr., 34, of Accokeek, was arrested by Tpr. J. C. Hardesty on an outstanding Bench Warrant (T3-13777) for Failing to Appear in District Court in Leonardtown on January 8, 2009. The original charges were Malicious Destruction of Property over $500.00, Theft under $500.00, Unlawful taking of Motor Vehicle, Theft over $500.00 and 2 counts of Burglary 4th Degree. Mr. Beach was incarcerated in the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT UNDER $1,000: On Wednesday, February 17 at 3:54 pm, TFC K. D. Lashley responded to the 20000 block of Hermanville Road in Lexington Park for the reported theft. Upon arrival, contact was made with the female complainant, 20, of Lexington Park, who advised she was visiting a friend on February 9 in the 22000 block of Gloucester Court in Lexington Park. When she left the residence that evening, she forgot her purse. She returned the next day to discover that $100.00 was taken from the purse by an unknown suspect. The investigation continues.

MALICIOUS DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On Thursday, February 18 at 12:37 am, Tpr. M. J. Pitcher responded to the 15000 block of Point Lookout Road in St. Inigoes for the reported prowler. Upon arrival, contact was made with the female complainant, 39, of St. Inigoes, who advised she heard a noise outside her residence. She observed that an unknown male subject kicked in the door to a residence next door and tried kicking in her door. The suspect was observed on Trappe Road and later identified as Justin Matthew Clausen, 21, of Lexington Park. He was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged with Malicious Destruction of Property and Public Intoxication. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT UNDER $1,000: On Thursday, February 18 at 3:00 pm, Tpr. R. L. Jackson responded the to JC Penney store in the Wildewood Shopping Center for the reported Theft in Progress. Upon arrival, Tpr. Jackson met with the Loss Prevention Officer who was detaining Teresita Hernandez Graham, 43, of Saint Leonard. Ms. Graham was observed stealing 11 clothing items valued at $222.60 from the store. Ms. Graham purchased a sweater and then placed the 11 items in her purse and exited the store. She was taken into custody once she left the store. Tpr. Jackson placed her under arrest and transported her to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where she was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Thursday, February 18 at 11:38 pm, Jonathan David Yorkshire, 48, of Mechanicsville, was arrested by TFC C. M. Evans for Possession of Cocaine and CDS Paraphernalia. Mr. Yorkshire was a passenger in a blue Saturn when it was stopped on Mervell Dean Road, off Three Notch Road in Hollywood for exceeding the posted speed limit. Mr. Yorkshire was found to be in possession of a brass CDS smoking device containing Cocaine and nine baggies of Cocaine. In addition to the Cocaine being seized, $636.00 was also seized from the vehicle. Mr. Yorkshire was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Friday, February 19 at 4:54 pm, Jeffrey Alan Dement, 45, of Leonardtown, was arrested by Tpr. R. L. Jackson on an Arrest Warrant (T3-14322) issued by the District Court in Leonardtown on February 12. The original charge was Theft under $1,000.00. Mr. Dement was arrested on the open warrant during a routine traffic stop on Three Notch Road, in the area of North Clover Hill Road in Hollywood. Mr. Dement was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Saturday, February 20 at 8:50 pm, Cpl. J. L. Linger was conducting a patrol check in the area of the boat ramp off Abells Wharf Road, south of Leonardtown when he observed a gray Kia in the parking lot. Upon contact with the occupants of the vehicle, a strong odor of burnt Marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Abigail Katharine Page, 18, and the passenger was Anthony Maurice Woodland, Jr., 20, both of Chaptico. Ms. Page was found to be in possession of a glass CDS smoking device containing Marijuana. Mr. Woodland was found to be in possession Marijuana. Both were placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where they were held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

TRAFFIC ARREST: On Sunday, February 21 at 7:00 pm, Michael David Maskalenko, 24, of Great Mills, was arrested by TFC D. S. Brill for Driving on a Suspended License. Mr. Maskalenko was operating a red Honda Civic on Piney Point Road when he was stopped at Take It Easy Ranch Road in Callaway for exceeding the posted speed limit. A routine MVA check revealed Mr. Maskalenko's driving privileges are suspended. He was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

VEHICLE ACCIDENT: On Feb. 14 at 1239 hours police, fire and rescue personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of MD Route 235 and Clover Hill Road in Hollywood. Trooper Pitcher of the Leonardtown Barrack was the first police responder on the scene and he conducted the investigation. It was determined that vehicle #1 was attempting to travel from northbound MD Route 235 to Clover Hill Road via a crossover. Vehicle #2 was traveling southbound on MD Rt. 235 in lane #2. As vehicle #2 approached the area of the crossover, its operator saw vehicle #1 entering the southbound lanes of MD Rt. 235. The operator of vehicle #2 swerved into lane #1 to avoid a collision and ultimately collided with vehicle #1. One of the vehicle occupants, an eight-year-old juvenile, was evaluated by rescue personnel on the scene and was eventually flown to Children's Hospital via Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7. The juvenile was treated and released from Children's Hospital later on the same date.
