St. Mary's County BCI Police Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Jan. 23, 2010) - The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) released the following incident and arrest reports. BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.

ARMED ROBBERY: On January 10 at approximately 8:44 p.m., Deputies and Maryland State Police Troopers responded to the Arby's Restaurant on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park, Maryland for a report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed the suspect entered the business, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and property.

The suspect is described as a black male, 25 to 35 years old, approximately 5'6" to 5'8", 160 - 180 pounds wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and black sweat pants.

Detective from the St. Mary's Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective David Alexander at 301-475- 4200 ext. 1954 or Crime Solvers at 301-475-3333. The caller does have to leave his/her name. If the information leads to the arrest and conviction, the caller may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

FRAUD, IDENTITY THEFT: On January 6, detectives initiated an investigation regarding allegations of fraud and identity theft. Investigation revealed Dennis A. Gingles, age 43, of Lexington Park, had obtained various credit cards, a cell phone, a Maryland drivers license and purchased a motor vehicle utilizing the identity of his brother who is currently incarcerated in the Division of Corrections. Gingles had also altered his physical appearance to have the same physical features as his brother. Gingles was arrested and charged with 3 counts of Applying for Credit Card under False Identification, Unlawfully use Signature of Another, Fraud per Identity Information Theft. Gingles was incarcerated in the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner.
