Small Plane Crashes in Hollywood Field

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (March 6, 2009)—It seems that there is rarely a week that goes by in St. Mary's County that doesn't see some significant incident, death, crime, arrest, or accident. Today a small plane crash landed in an open field near the 23000 block of Lawrence Hayden Road in Hollywood around 1:00 p.m.

State troopers and MSP helicopter Trooper 7 responded to the crash and found pilot William Mark Garrett, of California, Md. alive. Police say Garrett refused medical treatment.

Officers contacted the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and turned the investigation over to them.
