One Dead in Leonardtown Accident


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (March 5, 2009)—One person is dead and a juvenile was sent to St. Mary's Hospital with injuries after a two vehicle accident in Leonardtown Thursday morning. Police say their investigation is in the preliminary stages and they have not released any names pending notification of the families.

The accident occurred around 9:15 am on Hollywood Road at the entrance of the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) office in Leonardtown.

Police believe a 2004 Toyota truck was exiting the parking lot of SMECO and pulled into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet SUV traveling westbound on Hollywood Road, resulting in a collision. The driver of the Toyota was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger in the Toyota was transported to St. Mary's Hospital. The driver of the SUV was uninjured.

The investigation is being conducted by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Team.
