Calvert County Sheriff's Reports


PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Feb. 16, 2009) - The Calvert County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

DOP: On February 10, Dep. Jason Dean responded to the St. Leonard Recreation area, Grover Field, located at the end of Maryland Ave. A supervisor for Calvert County Parks and Recreation advised that he observed a portable toilet that appeared to have been set on fire at an unknown time. The toilet, owned by Site Services LLC, was located by the baseball field. The damage, valued at $650, happened sometime between February 4 and 10. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dep. Dean at 410-535-2800.

DOP: Unknown suspect(s) fired a BB or pellet gun at the window of a home on Holland Cliffs Road in Huntingtown overnight between February 11 and 12 causing $200 in damage. Dep. Christopher McDonough is investigating.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: Two occupants of a vehicle parked at the Taco Bell in Solomons on February 12 at 8:00 p.m. were found to be in possession of suspected marijuana. DFC James Smith subsequently arrested Derek Craig Bradley, 20, and Brandon Angelo Meredith, 19, both of Lusby, and charged each with possession of marijuana and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia (a spoon and a small metallic homemade burner, used to prepare a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana, heroin)).

DOP: On February 13 an employee of Cove Point Park in Lusby advised Dep. James Morgan that unknown suspect(s) damaged four lifeguard platforms by throwing them into the swimming pool. It is unknown when the damage, valued at $50, occurred. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dep. Morgan at 410-535-2800.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: After conducting a traffic stop, Dep. Vaughn Evans found the occupants of a vehicle to be in possession of suspected marijuana. Dep. Evans made the stop on February 13 at 3:00 p.m. in Prince Frederick at Main Street and Church Street. The male suspects, one sixteen years old and the other a 17-year-old, both from St. Leonard, were each charged with possession of marijuana on a youth report and released to their parents.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On February 13 at 10:00 a.m. Dep. Thomas Rickard conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on northbound Md. Rt. 4 at Dunleigh Drive in Dunkirk. The driver was found to be in possession of suspected controlled dangerous substances. Dep. Rickard arrested Ernest C. Groves, 56 of Huntingtown, and charged him with possession of Oxycodone, in sufficient quantity to indicate intent to distribute same, possession of Oxycodone and possession of Endocet.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: Dep. Christopher Wells responded to the Splash and Dash Carwash on Md. Rt. 4 in Huntingtown on February 14 at 12:30 p.m. for a suspected CDS violation. An employee of the establishment advised that the occupant of a red truck was attempting to give marijuana to several employees. He advised that the truck just left and went southbound on Md. Rt. 4. Dep. Wells conducted a traffic stop near Buckler Road and made contact with the driver. Dep. Wells detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The driver, identified as David Shawn Smith, 37, of Shady Side, was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana and suspected cocaine. He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana in sufficient quantity to indicated an intent to distribute same, possession of cocaine, use of drug paraphernalia (a metal pipe) and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia (a green plastic baggie and a scale).
