Waldorf Man Charged with Discharging Destructive Device


LA PLATA, Md. (November 25, 2009) — Tuesday morning, Deputy State Fire Marshals charged a 24 year-old Waldorf man in connection with the possession and detonation of a destructive device. The explosion took place in the parking lot of the Lowes Store located in the 300 block of Rosewick Road in La Plata at about 1:00 pm on October 16, 2009.

Steven Edward MacNulty of Waldorf surrendered to Deputy State Fire Marshals this morning at the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators after an extensive investigation concluded MacNulty had detonated the device, commonly known as a soda bottle bomb in the Lowes parking lot. Investigators obtained witness accounts of MacNulty throwing the device from a vehicle.

MacNulty has denied any involvement in the incident. He currently is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending his initial appearance before a district court commissioner.

If convicted of the charges MacNulty is facing 25 years imprisonment and a $250,000.00 fine.
