LA PLATA, Md. (Oct. 27, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On Oct. 26 at 8:54 p.m., officers responded to 11110 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of a strong-arm robbery. Investigation revealed the victim - a 66-year-old woman - and her daughter were walking toward their car when the suspect ran up and grabbed the victim's purse, causing her to fall. The victim attempted to hold onto her purse but the suspect dragged her on the ground and wrestled the purse away. The victim's daughter ran after the suspect who fled across the parking lot and escaped. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she was treated for an injury to her arm. Officer R. Johnson is investigating.

ROBBERY: On Oct. 26 at 7:58 p.m., officers responded to South Hampton Drive and Jessica Court in Indian Head for the report of a robbery. Investigation revealed the victim was walking in the area when three males ran up, struck him on his head and attempted to steal his briefcase. The victim briefly struggled with the suspects before they fled with his briefcase. Officers canvassed the area and the victim was treated for a minor wound to his hand. Officer R. Kuhnow is investigating.

OFFICERS ARREST SUSPECT IN THEFT: On Oct. 26 at 1:38 p.m., officers responded to the 10800 block of Willets Crossing Road in White Plains for the report of a theft in progress. According to the victim, the suspect broke into his shed and stole tools and other equipment. As officers responded, the victim provided a description of the suspect and the vehicle in which she fled. Officers canvassed the area and located the suspect's car in front of a pawn shop on Middleport Lane; the suspect was already inside the business trying to pawn the stolen property. The suspect was positively identified and placed under arrest. Officers found the stolen property inside the car and retuned it to the victim. Officers also found marijuana inside the car. The suspect, Jamie Veronica Thomas, 39, of Waldorf, was charged with burglary, theft under $1,000, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officer M. DePaulo made the arrest.

OFFICERS RECOVER HANDGUN: On Oct. 24 at 8:24 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers were in the 8100 block of Leonardtown Road in Hughesville when they observed a drug transaction between a group of males. The officers approached the subjects - some of whom were inside a car - and found a substance that was packaged like drugs; the drugs later tested negative. In addition, officers located a handgun in the vehicle. A 16-year-old male was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun. Officer Gottshall made the arrest.

OFFICERS RECOVER WEAPON AFTER RESPONDING TO DISPUTE: On Oct. 24 at 2:40 a.m., officers responded to the 9800 block of Emerald Lane in Newburg for an assault. Investigation revealed the suspect, James Donald Knott, Jr., 39, threatened the victim - his housemate- by pointing a rifle at him during an argument. Another person in the house disarmed the suspect at which point the suspect and victim began fighting. Knott was arrested and charged with first-degree assault. A loaded .22 caliber handgun was recovered. Officer B. Moore made the arrest.
